About Us

Vintage and Classic Workshops Ltd specialise in vintage and classic cars from the 1920's through to the 1960's.  We undertake a wide variety of work from general maintenance to full restorations including preparation for race and rally use. Our service covers design work, fabrication and welding, machining and sympathetic upgrades to chassis, suspension and engines.

Vintage and Classis Workshops Ltd is run by long time enthusiasts and car owners Jock Mackinnon and Paul Neil-MacLachlan. We have many years experience of preparing our own road and competition cars as well as our customers.  To discuss your requirements please contact us. Maintenance

We undertake general maintenance including lubricant & coolant changes, brakes, steering, engine tune up, tracking, tyre fitting and balancing.

Rebuilds

We can undertake full or partial rebuilds and part completed projects that require finishing.

Engines

We have many years experience building and tuning engines from the humble Austin 7 to Bentley 4 and 6 cylinder type with M.G, BMC, Riley and many more in between. Where required we can convert from white metal to shell bearings. We use specialist manufactured crankshafts, rods and pistons utilising modern materials and the latest design know-how.

For customers wishing to increase torque and horsepower we can modify cylinder heads for greater gas flow, including fitting larger valves and raised compression ratios along with advice on camshaft, valve gear, carburettor and manifold selections to meet your requirements.

Bodywork

We carry out the design and fabrication of bodywork in steel, aluminium and wood from minor alterations to full body builds, including repair of corrosion and accident damage. We also fabricate seat buckets to order.

Chassis

Chassis, Suspension, Steering and Brakes

We undertake sympathetic upgrades to improve the handling and drivability of your car. On discussing your requirements, we will advise on the most appropriate upgrades suited to the intended use of your car and carry out the work accordingly. These include hydraulic brake conversions and brake upgrades. Spring and damper upgrades and suspension and steering geometry optimisation. Design and fabrication of suspension arms, rods and multi-link systems.

Electrics

Electrics

We can undertake partial or complete re-wiring work using modern materials whilst blending sympathetically to look as period as possible. This includes magneto repairs, dynamo and starter repairs and upgrades with modern internals. Coil and electronic ignition conversions and LED light conversions.

Competition

We can prepare your car for race, sprints, hill climbs, rally or trials work. This includes preparation of existing cars to complete chassis/shell builds from scratch.

Want a car built to your own specification?

We have built several specials over the years based on Austin, Riley and Bentley chassis.
We can assist with design and specifications to suit your requirements for a road or track car and build accordingly including bodywork.

Bentley specials are usually based on MKVI and R type chassis. Properly built, they make fast, reliable and string sporting and touring cars that give years of pleasure. The original mechanics were made to a high engineering standard. Exactly what you would expect from Rolls Royce and Bentley.

You could enjoy ownership of a car unique to you at a surprisingly reasonable cost.

Commission Sales

Commission Sales

If you have a suitably period car to sell, we offer a commission based sales service.

It's very simple.

We advertise your car on our website & through our contact network along with an accurate description and agreed asking price. (Additional advertising can be arranged by agreement.)

We deal with the prospective buyers, prepare and demonstrate the car and complete the sale on your behalf aleviating you from the time and hassle invloved.

We charge a low commission rate based on the final selling price of the car.

There is no complicated agreement, you can withdraw the car from sale at any point prior to the sale being agreed.
